The chair and the leg

No, I don’t care! I stared and just couldn’t respond. I couldn’t think of anything that could be a possible answer to what I had just heard. He didn’t care at all? After all this time? But, we were together from the start. Made from the same wood. We have been like one. I have helped you up and kept you steady. I lifted weight for you and I never thought about myself.

I still don’t care, he said without hesitation. You see, I don’t need you really. And have you seen yourself? You are not what you used to be. Not what I signed up to. He sighed and looked at me. I have three more of your kind. That should do it.

I was hurt and disgusted at how easy he was able to let me go. After what felt like hours but couldn’t have been more than a few seconds I was thrown out. Next to the garbage bags. I was garbage apparently. Of no use. And why? Just because part of me was broken. And not even by my own fault. He asked me to be strong, to be steady and to hold the huge load that he accepted to be hold. It wasn’t even my choice! I felt the cold as it grew dark and couldn’t help but shiver.

Suddenly I felt a hand around me. Holding me and then I saw a big smile. I found a stick, the boy screamed in a happy voice. He can’t be older than 12 years old. He picked me up and took me to his home. Dad, he said, can you help me make this wooden stick into a bat? His dad looked at me and took me in his hands as he turned me around and around. Yeah, I guess I can. It is quite a strong kind of wood son. The boy jumped up and down of joy and I started to feel like I had a new home.

The next day his dad took me to their garage and started fixing me until I looked like a new bat. As soon as the boy came from school he ran into the garage and saw me waiting for him. He took me out and ran to pick up his friends for a game of baseball. For the next years to come I had found my new purpose and he kept bringing me to his dad whenever I needed a quick fix. They kept me strong. When summer season was over they would cover me in a special bag until the sun started to show warmth again. He took me to high school and to college. I was happy and I almost never thought about the chair anymore. But when I did, I would feel a sting in my heart. So I have made it a habbit to think of something good as soon as this happened. How we used to laugh when we lifted something light as it was easy but also how we anticpiated the worse when something heavy would come by. I decided to focuson the good times instead of the awful goodbye.

One sunny day I was picked up again for a good game of baseball. Suddenly I saw he chair on top of a pile of garbage that was about to be picked up. Three legs and damaged as if he was kept in a garage for a long time without being repared. I stood next to him but he didnt recognize me. He just looked right through me and before I could say anything he was picked up and taken to recycling. My heart cried a little bit. The boy saw me and said, look he is going to find his new purpose shortly as well. Maybe he will become the frame of a painting or part of some other wooden product. I smiled from the inside as I hoped he would feel the same as I did right now. A new purpose without losing myself. Then I felt a strong wave of air as I was swung and young men were cheering as I just sent the ball over the fence.

 

 

 

 

Run before you are broken

The other day I was just minding my own business and going through my social media page. One of my friends had posted a video of a commercial in Germany. Needless to say it was sharp, direct, brutal and what surprised me full of emotion! That is not how i perceive our German neighbours!

It took me quite some time t be able to watch it again. Because it hits a nerve. A vulnerable one. The one of our elderly that are somehow forgotten. Forgotten because the Knicks play or Ajax, or because you have a new smartphone or car. Not because they are easily forgotten… oh no.. it’s because people suffer from emotional deprivation. And because of that they simply don’t think that what they are doing is wrong..

No, not until it’s too late. And that smartphone that could have been used to Skype with your parents is out of date. The car that you could have driven to them to celebrate any day just because they are still with you is out of order. Broken down. Just like you are. But a car can be fixed or replaced. But whatever part is broken within you will never be fixed. It’s not a small dent… it’s broken.

Run, call, drive but do something. Before it’s too late and you find yourself in pieces. Regretting the moment you chose to be free and now you are chained forever.

No Carb lasagna dish

After winter and the holiday season you want to lose weight. BUT you do enjoy life and the smell and taste of good food. Well, here is an idea for a nice meal. It looks festive and is full of vitamines so whether you eat it by yourself or treat your loved ones, you will enjoy it with no feelings of guilt!

What do you need to get started?

  • 1 chicken breast
  • kurkuma
  • salt
  • pepper
  • paprika powder
  • 450 grams of veggie mix (I chose eggplant, onions, leek, zucchini, mushroom and red paprika)
  • half a pumkin (bottle version)
  • 300 grams of corn out of a can
  • an oven, an ovenplate (preferably of glas so you can see the layers 🙂
  • olive oil
  • spinach (200 gr out of a can)
  • grated cheese (250 grams)
  • 3 eggs

Now let’s get to work:

1. take a pan and boil enough water to fit in the pumkin

2. peel of the skin of the pumpkin and cut it in small pieces and put it in the pan with boiled water. Add a teaspoon of salt in the water and let it cook until the pumpkin is soft (feel with a fork). This will take approx. 15 minutes.

3. When the pumkin is ready take a potato crusher and make it into a paste and let it cool of.

4. Wash the corn well so you get rid of the strong flavour of the water it was kept in. Then make it into a paste using your kitchen aid.

5. Take the chicken breast and cut it into small, even pieces (approx 2cm). Take your pan and heat 2 spoons of olive oil before throwing in the pieces of chicken. While stirring, add 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 big spoon of kurkuma and 1 teaspoon of paprika powder to it. What a smell right?

(this is a good moment to preheat your oven on 180 Celcius!)

6. Last piece is taking the veggies that you have chosen and cutting them in small squeres of approx. 2 cm. Take in the explosion of colours for a second 🙂 Heat a pan and stir fry the veggies until they are well done (approx 15-20 min’s). Use the spices to your own taste, but a large spoon of kurkuma and paprika and and a teaspoon of salt and pepper should do it.

7. Take 3 eggs and only take the yolk of them and leave them in a bowl.

Now you have all the parts ready and you can mix them into one of the sweetest no carb dishes you have ever eaten!

8. Take the oven plate/dish and cover it using some olive oil. Don’t forget the sides of the plate!

9. Take the pumpkin paste and cover the bottom of the dish

10. Second layer are the vegetables.

11. Third layer is the corn paste

12. Fourth layer is the spinach

13. Fifth layar is the chicken

14. Cover your dish using the yolk and finally spread the cheese all over the top.

Done! Now you only have to gently slide the dish into the oven and wait for 15 minutes.

Take your dish and be honest: a sweet smell but it’s an explosion in your mouth 🙂 enjoy!

Lovemix Salad

Think: fresh, summer, sweet, sour and low fat energy salad and you are here on the right spot! 

Take the following and you are ready to go. Within 15 min max!! you will serve fresh love on a plate! (3 actually)

– 2 tomatoes
– 1 medium sized cucumber
– 100 gr surumi sticks or tuna
– 200 gr mozarella
– 100 gr sweet sour beetroot
– 8 leaves of fresh basil
– 100 gr crispy mais (just from a can)

Dressing
– half a teaspoon salt
– 1 teaspoon black pepper
– 50 ml olive oil
– 25 ml vinegar
– 1 good squeeze in a lemon
– 2 hands full of green salad

Now what?
Its easier to make than it looks like!
Take the washed tomatoes and get rid of the skin. Then slice it in even squares of 1 cm.
Do the same with the cucumber.
Slice the mozarella, beetroot and the surimi sticks in chunks ( just how large you like them).
Then add the leaves of basil after you bruise them as then they unleash that amazing smell!
Finally add the freshly washed green salad.

Mix the dressing ingredients in a cup and add it to the salad.

How to present on a plate ( this mix is good for 3 plates),

Surprisingly light lover

You want to eat but not specifically gain weight. Its common knowledge that less carbon in your food makes a lighter meal and.. bonus.. does not directly stick to your thighs and belly.

What if you feel like a pizza margharita but you are not willing to sacrifice your waist for it?

Then go fetch the following ingredients:

– 2 eggs
– 2 small tomatoes
– parmazan
– 1 teaspoon black pepper
– salt (less is better because parmazan is salty already)
– 2 spoons of olive oil

Now what?

Get a pan and drop the 2 spoons of olive oil in it and heat it up slowly so you can prepare the rest.
Take the washed tomatoes and get rid of the skin. Then slice them in 0,5 cm slices.

You can directly place them in the pan as it should be hot by now.
After 2 minutes you can add the eggs which you have put the seasoning in.

Let it cook on a low level so it can take its time. Then add the love ingredient to it, the parmazan..

After 2 minutes its done and ready to serve. You can always add some mozarella to it, but this version is the one with no strings attached 🙂

All these thoughts must have crossed your mind when thinking about your own Mother.

Whether she is still with us or not, celebrate the good things and thoughts you have about her.

Enjoy your day and start it with a smile. If you can call her, do so. If you can’t send her a happy thought.

1 is not 1

Everybody changes, whether they like it or not. You will change, even if you do not want to change, you will be changing your faith by not changing.

Exercise:
Go and get a glass of water in one of your friends house where you have never used their kitchen.

Wait a few hours and do it again.

See? You knew where the glasses where and how everything worked in that kitchen and you have managed to go directly grabbing a glass of water without hesitation.

Think about your 1st time. Was it the same? No it wasn’t. So although you did exactly the same you mind think to yourself, it wasn’t. 1 is not the same as another 1.

Now, think about your encounters with strangers. Although the people where different, you have learned along the way how to treat strangers different from the people you knew.
